TORE AARHOLT (b.1945, NORWAY)

Aarholt is a Norwegian artist working primarily with painting and printmaking. His practice is characterized by abstracted figures and compositions built from geometric and organic forms, often combining strong colours with playful, carefully balanced arrangements.
His imagery draws on visual symbols, illustration, comics, and references to both contemporary and distant cultures.

Aarholt’s work often explores the contrast between organic and mechanical forms, with rhythm and repetition playing an important role in his compositions.

He has worked extensively with woodcut and has also developed works where figures and geometric elements move beyond the traditional picture plane, taking on a more sculptural quality.

He studied at Einar Granum’s School of Drawing and Painting and at the National Academy of Fine Art in Oslo (1978–1982).

His work is represented in collections including the National Gallery, Oslo City Art Collection, the Norwegian Cultural Council, and the Storting’s art collection
