MARTA NERHUS (b.1955, NORWAY)

Nerhus is a Norwegian textile artist whose practice explores the expressive possibilities of wire and metal thread. Since 1989, she has developed her own techniques for knitting, modelling, sewing, and layering metal wire into delicate sculptures, wall works, and installations. Her works balance fragility and strength, often creating a sense of transparency and lightness.

Nerhus draws inspiration from nature, landscapes, plants, and small forms of life, as well as social and political themes.

Her practice often combines poetic and narrative elements, with recent works using layers of coloured metal thread to create translucent, painterly compositions.

She lives and works in Bergen and has exhibited extensively in Norway and internationally.

She studied textile art at the Bergen National Academy of the Arts (1983–1988), with further studies in painting and textile art in Helsinki, Finland.
